What I Worked on at Tech Camp August 2011 (Andrea Weis)

1 st the data analysis

Why the plan? -Students are not transferring their skills of contextual vocabulary acquisition from Latin to English (or at least not on this test!) -In wordchamp we practice learning vocabulary words, then using them with negotiated meanings in readings -The students have shown improvement through the year (wordchamp metrics) in that they look up fewer unfamiliar words and maintain high reading comprehension scores

Wordchamp says so:

But do students know what they are doing and why? I need to find out!

What do I intend? After a series of wordchamp practices, the student will reflect upon how they are doing and why they are at their current level Students will record and graph their level of accuracy Students will report on WHY there are changes in the level of accuracy

Transfer I will present explicit examples of transfer to English Enlist students and teachers to bring examples from other classes I will visit other classes to collect examples!

At the end of the year The students will show improved vocabulary acquisition and ability to apply the analytical skills independently! Wordchamp + reflection + feedback= IMPROVED UNDERSTANDING! (by the way, this is a screencast, a way of flipping the classroom!)
