ADDING AND SUBTRACTING DECIMALS (1) GRADE 3

Hello, How are you doing? Today, we are going to start a new lesson on Decimals.

Decimal A number that uses place value and Decimal point to show tenths and hundredths. Example – 0.53, 0.86 Places in each Decimal – There are two places in each of the decimal given below. Example – 0.32, 0.47

Add Decimals using Models Step 1: Use one color to shade the first addend. Step 2: Use different color to shade the other addend. Step 3: In the place value chart, write the total amount.

To add = 0.75

Steps to add decimals.  Line up the decimal points.  Start with the hundredths, then tenths and add each place.  Regroup if needed.  Place the decimal point between the ones and the tenths.

Add Line up the decimal points and add each place value Thus, = 1.6

Find

Peter spend $4.26 for the lunch. Roger spend $6.25 for the lunch. How much did they spend altogether?

Add 2.67 and 2.56 on a chart Ones.Tenthshundredths

Add

Which is true about a) b) c) d)

Find the sum of the decimal numbers shown in the grid.

Regrouping Regrouping is required if there are more than 9 tenths in the tenths place. In case of regrouping, put 1 over the ones in the addend. 11 tenths can be regrouped to 1 one and 1 tenths.

Which among the following is greater than 1? a) b) c) d)

Which is correct? a) = 42.5 b) = 4.25 c) = 425 d) =0.425
