SOAR

An obstacle we must overcome: Our Past

Soaring is not in the future for those who choose to live in the past.

To tell ourselves that we will never soar because of the brokenness of our past is putting limits on God.

There is a difference between being affected by our past and being defined by it.

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception,

…instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. …instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. --Eph. 4:21-24

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. --Psalm 103

Healing from our past can only be found in one place: in relationship with our Heavenly Father.

4 characteristics of the Father’s love: * it is sacrificial

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. --1 John 4:9-10

4 characteristics of the Father’s love: * it is sacrificial * it is eternal

For (I am) good. (My) unfailing love continues forever, and (my) faithfulness continues to each generation. --Ps. 100:5

I have loved you, my people with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. --Jer. 31:3

For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. --Isa. 54:10

God is the light of the world and in Him is no darkness at all. --1 John 1:5

4 characteristics of the Father’s love: * it is sacrificial * it is eternal * it is personal

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. --Rom. 8:14-16

God is a Daddy who goes to great lengths to affirm His love for His kids.

4 characteristics of the Father’s love: * it is sacrificial * it is eternal * it is personal * it is unconditional

If you don’t trust God, then you don’t know Him!
