Activities to Date Oct-Dec: school conferences held; severely off- track outreach Jan. Letters mailed home to families Jan. Evening School began: 4 sites Jan: budget set up for schools for site-specific credit recovery: replacing 21 st century grant at 8 and adding additional at all Feb: updated on/off track definitions March: ran data, gave to counselors March-April: counseling conferences; summer school planning
Summary of Current Credit Recovery Activities 1800 students taking 2500 courses 2 Forms of Activities: Site-specific and Central Evening School Central Evening School: Burton, Washington, O’Connell: PE, College Career, Health, Chemistry, Spanish: All teacher-led courses 277 students taking 357 courses: 48 (17%) AA; 128 (46%) Latino; 30 (10%) Chinese, 25 (9%) Filipino Site-Specific Credit Recovery: Approximately 1525 students taking 2115 courses at their home school sites. Combination of teacher-led and on-line courses. 830 of the 2115 courses are on-line
Budget Summary of City Funds Approx 312K to 8 schools to replace 21 st Century Funds Grant Approx: 301k to supplement credit recovery options at all schools Central Evening School: 300k Approx 300k: purchase of on-line licenses (3 year life) Approx 187k: summer supplement; year-round Independence; on- line licenses; college/SAT/ACT prep
Summer School Overview: (see handout for details) June 12-July 17 th Sites: Balboa, Burton, Wallenberg 9-11; Galileo 9-12 Classes Offered: English 9, 10 American Lit Algebra Adv Algebra Geometry Biology Chemistry Modern World U.S. History P.E. Spanish Other High Schools may have site specific credit recovery during June Cyber Courses via a Lab will be offered as well at sites Independence High School will offer Odysseyware for students who cannot attend regular summer school schedule
