Overview of GM Sound Survey Process Eltaneice Bolden – GM Global IH Manager Dave Dickhaut – UAW Industrial Hygienist, Lansing Delta Township

Topics 1.Site Noise Committee 2.Sound Survey Process 3.Sound Survey Reports 4.Upcoming Changes to the Process

Site Noise Committee Committee Membership  Facilities  Industrial Hygiene  Health Services  Manufacturing Engineering  Safety  Others as Needed Roles & Responsibilities  Ensure completion of the site sound survey  Ensure the site has a functioning noise abatement program that focuses on the list of the top five (5) noise control priorities and/or areas and to document those activities.  Participates in any incident investigations associated with a confirmed STS+ diagnosis  Complete the annual Sound Status Report (SSR)  Annually reviews compliance to the Hearing Conservation & Noise Control Self- Assessment and Regulatory Compliance tool.  Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of the Site Hearing Conservation and Noise Control Program.

The Sound Survey Process SL 2.0 Sound Level Specification since its inception in 1980s A systematic approach to estimating the exposure of employees to noise Traditionally performed by an outside contractor due to the time intensive nature of the testing and creation of the report

Collection of Noise Samples  A representative, task-based sampling approach is used as opposed to dosimetry*  Job Function Profiles created toestimate exposure of similarly exposed people  Use the Larson Davis Spark NoiseDosimeter to measure sound levels

Job Function Profile

Sound Level Measurements  Time Weighted Average (TWA) in dB(A)  Maximum in dB(A)  Minimum in dB(A)  Unweighted Peak (in dB)

Types of Surveys  Baseline Survey –Task-Based Exposure Assessment –Each task within a given function  Traditional Update –New operations and other site changes  Targeted Update Noise Survey (TUNS) –Jobs where STS have occurred –Jobs where significant tasks or equipment have been added –Requires significant time commitment of Noise Committee

Survey Outcomes A Sound Survey Plant Layout and a number of reports are created

Sound Survey Results  Review with the Site Noise Committee  Identify People who need to be in Hearing Conservation Program  Review with the PSRB (Summary)  Identify Operations / Areas in need of Noise Control

Upcoming Changes to the Process  A new Audit Technical Standard to replace SL 2.0  A streamlined format to the procedure  Switch from ACA to Robert Anderson Group

Any Questions so Far…………
