Motion Constraints Specialized Assembly Constraints that enable the assembly to be animated.

Place the Components Place Plate 3 first. This will be the grounded part. Place two instances of the Vert follower. Place two cams instances of Cam1and Cam2

Rotate the Vert followers Use the Rotate Component to position the vert followers as shown to the right.

Applying a Mate to the Vert follower Select Constraint and Mate the vert follower to the openings in the plate as shown. Make sure you select the central axes of both of the components. Apply.

Result of Applied Mated Constraints This is how the Vert followers should look after assembled. If the Vert followers are too low, just click and drag on them to pull them into this approximate position.

Inserting the Cams Use the Insert constraint for the cams and posts. Select the geometry as pictured to the right. Make sure the Aligned Solution is selected before applying the insert constraint.

Result of Inserts The “eccentrics” are now inserted on the posts. Try grabbing them and rotating them. They should rotate.

Applying the Transitional Constraint Select Constraint Select the Transitional Tab 1 st selection is the filleted end of the Vert follower and then the edge (face) of the eccentric as shown.

Result of Transitional Constraints Notice that the filleted ends of the Vert followers are now touching constrained against the surface of the eccentric. Repeat with the other follower and eccentric

Applying an Angle Constraint to Drive Apply an Angle Constraint between the work plane of the eccentric and the edge of the plate as shown. Only apply this angle constraint to one work plane.

Result of Angle Constraint Notice how the work plane, which is attached to the eccentric, has rotated to be 0 degrees in relation to the side surface of the plate.

Applying a Motion Constraint to the Eccentrics Select Constraint Select the Motion Tab Make the selections as indicated. Select the right eccentric, then the left so we will know which eccentric is supposed to rotate 3 times as fast as the other. Apply

Ready to Drive the Angle Constraint In your Browser, expand as shown and then right click on the angle constraint and select Drive Constraint.

Making the Settings the the Drive Constraint Dialog Box Make the settings as shown to the right and select Play
