What are our major investigations telling us? Criminal activity is no longer simply about cars: Organised Multi-jurisdictional Multiple crime categories Continues to exploit weaknesses in industry and government practices Traditional investigation methods are increasingly complex and resource intensive

What Can we Expect in the Future? Declines in short term theft likely to reverse: Theft of transponder keys predominate theft method Shift from older to newer cars Owners at higher personal risk from theft with force Deteriorating social conditions Increasingly reckless driving behavior

What Can we Expect in the Future? Profit motivated theft levels likely to continue mid-medium term: Increased use of electronic theft methods Displacement due to reduced scrap prices?
