INTEGRATED CORE ASSESSMENT MODERN WORLD HISTORY

MWH HONORS CORE ASSESSMENT The core assessment project in MWH-H focuses on the Era of Imperialism and the impact imperialism had on both the Imperializer and the Imperialized. This project is worth 20% of your entire course grade. There actually 2 parts to the Project- Core 1 and Core 2 However, both parts will be done at the same time and submitted jointly in the form of a single “magazine”.

CORE 1 Core 1- In Core 1, you will address Imperialism in your assigned country- from the date the Europeans (or Japanese) arrive to the date of Independence. The Component Parts of Core 1, consist of 4 magazine articles (as specified in the handout), an original advertisement of a good or product, an original political cartoon, and an editorial response thereto.

CORE 1 4 Articles: 1) What was your region like before the Western power arrived? 2) Why did the Western power want to colonize your region? 3) What methods did your Western power use to subdue and control your region? 4) How was your region affected by the Western power? Each Articles should be: *10 pt. Times Roman Font, single spaced, and two columns per page. * Titled- creative, applicable and imaginative * Each article must have a picture that is applicable to the topic of the article. * Each Article must contain at least 5 Citations from 3 different sources

CORE I Core 1 must also contain: An advertisement related to one of the initial resources sought by the Imperial Power (created by you) A graph or chart to illustrate an important statistic related to your country at the time of imperialism A Political Cartoon of your own creation An editorial response to the Political Cartoon that you create

TRANSITION You magazine should include a single page the separates Core 1 from Core 2 It should indicate the shift in focus and time- such as:” “The Congo- Post 1960” Or “The Congo- from Independence to today” Or, “The Congo- The “modern era”.

CORE 2 Core 2 also contains 4 Articles addressing the following: 1) How did your Country gain independence? 2) What is the current political status of your country and how does it look for the future? 3) What is the current economic status of your country now? How does it look for the future? 4) What affect did de-colonization have on the cultural characteristics of your country? Each Articles should be: *10 pt. Times Roman Font, single spaced, and two columns per page. * Titled- creative, applicable and imaginative * Each article must have a picture that is applicable to the topic of the article. * Each Article must contain at least 5 Citations from 3 different sources.

CORE 2 Core 2 Must also include: * An advertisement for a current product or export from your country * A relevant graph or chart * A video link to a video relating to your country * An editorial that speculates the future of your nation

BIBLIOGRAPHIC REQUIREMENTS Must include 12 total sources. 4 must be books 4 must be library subscription data bases 4 of your choice- make sure they are credible, accepted sources. (Wikipedia does not count). This is the bare minimum of sources, it is suggested more than 12 sources will be necessary to competently and thoroughly research this assignment.
