INTRODUCTION On 14/1/2014, my group and I were given a project to find out the temperature of various places in our school. It will be a project that last 2 days long, 14/1/2014 and 15/1/2014. We are given a device that worth $400 to measure the environment so we must be very careful with the device.
DAY 1 ~ 14/1/2014 Sites150 cm above ground Description of surrounding Top floor of carpark 31.6Cloudy Garden outside printing center 31.6Cloudy, presence of vegetation Open space beside canteen 31.7Clear, concrete ground Terraces30.7Slightly cloudy, concrete surface Field30.8Slightly cloudy, grassy ground Running track30.3Slightly cloudy, synthetic running track Fountain30.8Slightly cloudy, concrete surface, water feature
DAY 2 ~ 15/1/2014 Sites150 cm above groundDescription of surrounding Top floor of carpark29.1Cloudy, concrete ground, windy Garden outside printing center 27.6Shady and windy, presence of vegetation Open space beside canteen 30.2Clear, concrete ground Terraces27.7Slightly cloudy, concrete surface Field28.7Slightly cloudy, grassy ground Running track28.9Slightly cloudy, synthetic running track Fountain28.0Slightly cloudy, concrete surface, water feature
COMPARISON OF THE TWO DAYS Sites150 cm above groundDescription of surrounding 14/1 15/1Average Top floor of carpark Cloudy Garden outside printing center Cloudy, presence of vegetation Open space beside canteen Clear, concrete ground Terraces Slightly cloudy, concrete surface Field Slightly cloudy, grassy ground Running track Slightly cloudy, synthetic running track Fountain Slightly cloudy, concrete surface, water feature
The actual results of the ranking were not really close to the class estimation The locations A,B,E,F and G are closer to the pre- field work estimation There don’t seem have any patterns in the graph
Our hypothesis is that place that are place that are concrete surface will be hotter than the places that are not concrete surfaces. However it is not proven as some of the place that are concrete places are cloudy and have shades so its temperature will be lower than places that are not concrete surface. I feel that improvement can be made if we do it at a time where temperature is more constant so there will be lesser error.
