College Admissions: CADRs

CADRs – College Academic Distribution Requirements English 4 years Social Studies 3 years Science 2-3 years * – Washington in-state public universities require students to take a Physics or Chemistry class in addition to Biology World Languages 2-3 years Fine Arts year – Colleges vary on how much credit and which classes they will count to satisfy this requirement

CADRs (Cont’) Mathematics 3+ years Washington in-state public universities require: Math through Algebra 2 A quantitative math-based class in senior year (either a math class or math-based science such as physics or chemistry count) Completion of a higher-level math (e.g. pre- calculus) prior to the senior year exempts students from the senior year quantitative course requirement.

CADRs (Cont’) Additional academic electives (math, history, English, world language, science & fine arts) Always check with colleges for specific requirements!

Additional Programs International Baccalaureate (IB) International Baccalaureate (IB) Wanic.org NCAA information Tech Prep College in the High School Summer School Software Tech test DLD Online Courses

Middle School Credits in Math & World Language Students may elect to have the letter grade and credit applied to their high school transcript for qualifying world language and math classes from middle school. You have until the end of your junior year to make this decision. Once a class has been added to your transcript it cannot be removed.

Equivalency Courses Equivalent courses are those that satisfy more than one graduation requirement. Courses that have an equivalency are noted in the course catalog. Equivalency applies to meeting high school graduation requirements only. It does not diminish the number of credits required for graduation; it may change the courses needed to fulfill graduation requirements. Equivalency does not apply for meeting core requirements for college entrance.

Course Selection Things to keep in mind when selecting course requests:  Balance - consider academic load & outside involvements; sports, clubs, home, etc.  Learning Recommendations for courses  Graduation requirements  CADRS (College Academic Distribution Requirements)

Course Alternative Selections Choose classes wisely- your first choices might not be available. Alternative choices - If no alternatives are listed, an alternative class will be selected for you. Alternatives MUST be different than first choice classes.
