The Ipad iMovie Interface

Interface page 2

Tips for getting started 1.Remember that movies take up a lot of memory 2.We are limited in our memory on these iPads 3.Pre-plan your movies 4.Use storyboards

Storyboards Storyboards are graphic organizers in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence Storyboards can be like cartoons

Getting Started 5 Essential iMovie for iPad Tips and Tricks 1.Shot Duration 2.Naming the Film 3.Splitting up the Footage 4.Shorten Titles 5.Clip Rotation

Shot Duration Recording for minutes on end (unless it’s a performance) isn’t ideal Each minute can use up to 1 GB (gigabyte) of space Shoot in short segments or burst Each clip, no matter it’s duration takes up just one line in the browser The longer the clip, the harder it becomes to find and select the piece you need or want.

Naming the Film You can now name your project before you start! Once in the Welcome screen tap on the Marque name and rename it Use a name relevant to your project

Splitting the Footage Selecting the correct footage to use – it is a rough guess! Remember you are trying to meet the projects timeline with the best – short – burst of information. To edit – drag your clip left or right until you are at the exact spot you desire on the playhead. Next “tap” on the clip to select it Then swipe your fingers down over the playhead The clip will be cut and you can discard the other segments

Shorten Clip Titles Titles can not span over multiple clips iMovie is limited in it’s titling tool The title remains for the entire time of the selected segment It is suggested to have a short segment with a short title A good tip is to “split your clip” (segment) in two The title will remain on the first part and gently fade away as the second part starts

Clip Rotation The iPad has an accelerometer built into it This is what orientates the screen to the Portrait (vertical) position and the Landscape (horizontal) position You may forget to shoot in the Landscape view!!! Don’t worry – there is a fix for that!

Add the clip to your project and move the playhead over it. Place two fingers over the main preview section (top right of the interface) and do a rotate motion with them Your clip will rotate ninety degrees in the direction your fingers were moving.

Any last minute questions before we use iMovie?

Let’s go have some fun! We will work in groups of 2 – 4 The theme for today is: What are some good ways that we can make iMovies for our classroom? Take five minutes and create a quick storyboard Now spend 10 minutes taping (recording) each member of the teams response. On each of your devices When we return we will edit the clips

Let’s talk about the experience… We will have a round table Q&A about our experience! Google and Ask.com are great sources for ideas

Final Thoughts Remember your students can and will be very creative Keep them grounded --- Use Storyboards! These tools are limited in space and time becomes an issue Go have fun and we look forward to seeing your creations, in the near future.

Photo Booth

Photo Booth has two sets of image effects that can be applied when taking a picture. The first set may be described to contain photographic filters similar to those in Adobe Photoshop: Adobe Photoshop:Adobe Photoshop:

Photo Booth facts Photo Booth consists of a single window containing a large viewer which provides a preview when taking photo snapshots or video clips. Thumbnails of saved photos and videos are displayed along the bottom of the window. These can be shown or played by double clicking on the thumbnails. There are also backdrops to go along with the setting or video you are doing.

Clicking the large red button underneath the preview area starts a 3-second countdown, after which a photo is snapped or a video clip begins recording, depending on which setting is selected. Effects can be applied by clicking on the "Effects" button. In addition, users can apply backdrops. Acquiring an image in Photo Booth

These provide an effect similar to a green screen. green screen.green screen. When a backdrop is selected, a message appears telling the user to step away from the camera. When a backdrop is selected, a message appears telling the user to step away from the camera. Once the background is analyzed, the user steps back in front of the camera and is shown in front of the chosen backdrop. iPhoto iPhoto is a more advanced tool for editing your images on the iPad It has “some” of the features of Adobe Photoshop The app cost $2.99 for an individual copy and is half price in quantities of 20 or more. We are currently raising funds to acquire the app Let me use my personal iPad to quickly demo the app
