San Diego Mayoral Race

San Diego…..through the years Historically know as a hot bed of conservative activity Anti-PLA Pension Reform Managed Competition, etc… Finally, a new electorate begins to emerge First Democratic Mayor in 20 years, city council victory And then…..

Why David Alvarez? Son of a fast food worker & janitor- understands everyone deserves a chance to succeed Progressive, pro-labor leader on the city council Does not shy away from his values Strong record of fighting for working families Blueprint plan in place to create good middle class jobs, affordable housing, invest in neighborhoods and make San Diego an affordable place for working families

Talked to 58,693 voters Knocked on 47,500 doors GOTV!! 69% of our IDs turned out to vote overall 55% turnout of a lower propensity universe targeting Latinos, women & younger voters in a 35% overall turnout election. SDLC Labor to Neighbor Over 44 Labor Unions and Community Organizations participated in our campaign Over 1600 Volunteer Shifts completed (600 on GOTV weekend alone) Biggest Political Upset in San Diego History

Why is San Diego Important? For San Diego… A re-energized member and progressive base Deepening of labor/community relationships at the local and state levels Pass good policy- minimum wage increase, paid sick days, etc. For California… Make San Diego part of the larger CA progressive conversation Create an incubator in San Diego for good, progressive policy instead of anti-labor policy For America… San Diego as a microcosm of the ideological debate within the Democratic Party Solidify labor as political force Build the “union brand”

“To Do” List Elect David Alvarez as the next Mayor of San Diego! Pass a Progressive Agenda this year Change the future of San Diego (and the world)!!
