Presentation transcript:

Mucocele of the lower lip When you gently bite the inside of ypur lip holding a large part of smooth tissue between your teeth, you may be able to feel little bumps all over the inside of the lip. These little bumps are minor or mucous glands that keep your oral tissue lubricant. If the duct of these mucous glands is occluded or injured, the mucous gland produce a sac under the mucosa & is called mucocele. The injury to the lower lip may be either during mastication or the habit of biting his lip. Mucocele may be due to inflammation that involves the minor duct resulting in their blockage. Changes in the mucous gland function & composition of the saliva may contribute to their development. Immunological factor may be underlying cause. If the mucocele is buried deep under the mucous tissue, the lesion is pink or reddish in appearance. If the cyst is superficial,, so it may be clear or bluish in appearance.

mucocele occur in the floor of the mouth, it is called RANULA & usually involves the major salivary glands The ranula originates in the body of sublingual glands ( sublingual or submandibular). This is the job of dentist. Treatment: Excision biopsy Marsupilization because of the risk of cutting the labial branch of the mental nerve
