Talk for writing The Planning Cycle

Clear front cover at the beginning of each genre

Teacher sets 3 genre specific targets for each pupil Cold Task on pink paper Learning journey for the journalistic writing unit

Photo of hook – drama, role play, trip, visitor, experience, cross – curricular activity etc.

Copy of the model text with a vocabulary list of any key new vocabulary that needs to be explored/ explained – in upper KS2, the pupils could generate this themselves as long as they copy spellings accurately on to the grid.

Story Map of the whole text

Reading as a reader - comprehension

Reading as a writer – language/style features

Word and sentence level teaching from the genre focusing on personal targets – pupils underline where they are demonstrating the skill.

Boxing up the text – with a column for planning for each of the stages.

After shared writing – writing the text in sections (each part of the boxing up into paragraphs with a specific LO focusing on targets)

Further writing in sections Quality marking after every section of shared writing to support improvement

Drafting of final piece Quality marking after every section of shared writing to support improvement

Editing of final piece to improve impact on the reader – guided by teacher marking
