TOOTHBRUSH, TOOTHPASTE AND BREATH MINTS THE TOOTHBRUSH FIRST APPEARED AROUND 3500 BC AND WAS USED BY EGYPTIANS AND BABYLONIANS.THESE WERE IN THE FORM OF CHEWING STICKS AND WERE MADE FROM THE BRANCHES OF THE PERSICA SALVADORA TREE.ANOTHER VERY EFFECTIVE ORAL HYGIENE AID WAS BOAR BRISTLES MOUNTED ON A BAMBOO STICK.THE EGYPTIANS USED TOOTH STICKS FOR DENTAL HYGIENE. THE WORLDS OLDEST KNOWN WAS USED MORE THAN 1500 YEARS AGO.THE EGYPTIANS USED BREATH MINTS BECAUSE THEY WERE VERY CONSCIOUS ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCE AND HYGIENE.MUCH LIKE TODAY,BAD BREATH WAS USUALLY DUE TO BAD DENTAL HEALTH.

EYE MAKE UP (KOHL) A SPECIAL BLACK EYE MAKE – UP CALLED KOHL,WAS MADE FROM GROUND – UP RAW METALS MIXED WITH OIL.THE EGYPTIANS BELIEVED IT HAD MAGICAL HEALING POWERS AND COULD RESTORE BAD EYESIGHT AND FIGHT EYE INFECTIONS. EGYPTIANS ALSO USED FACE ROUGE FOR CHEEKS AND LIPS,FACE POWDER AND PAINT FOR FINGER NAILS AND HAIR DYES.

HIEROGLYPHICS THERE WERE 700 LETTERS IN THE ALPHABET! HIEROGLYPHICS WERE SYMBOLS THAT EGYPTIANS USED FOR WRITING.SOME SYMBOLS STOOD FOR WORDS AND SOME FOR SOUNDS.CHILDREN WENT TO SCHOOLS FOR SCRIBES WHERE THEY FIRST LEARNED HOW TO READ AND WRTE HIEROGLYPHICS.

Door Locks The earliest door lock was made around 4000 BC. A hollowed out bolt in the door was connected to pins that could be moved by a key. When the key pushed up on the pins they slipped away from the bolt shaft which opened the lock.

THE CALENDAR THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS HAD THREE DIFFERENT CALENDARS. 1. A 365 DAY FARMING CALENDAR MADE UP OF 3 SEASONS OF FOUR MONTHS. 2. AN ASTRONOMICAL CALENDAR BASED ON OBSERVING THE STAR SIRIUS WHICH APPEARED AT THE START OF THE FLOOD SEASON. 3. A LUNAR (MOON) CALENDAR BASED ON THE MOVEMENTS OF THE MOON WHICH TOLD PRIESTS WHEN TO PERFORM CEREMONIES. TO MAKE THINGS SIMPLER AND MORE ORGANISED A CIVIL CALENDAR WAS EVENTUALLY INTRODUCED THAT HAD 12 MONTHS EACH WITH 30 DAYS PLUS 5 DAYS FOR PUBLIC HOLIDAYS.
