The British Gymnastics Leisure Centre Scheme Working in partnership

Introduction British Gymnastics (BG) is the UK National Governing Body for the sport of Gymnastics It is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to developing levels and quality of provision across a range of disciplines, including Pre-School, General Gymnastics, Trampolining and Cheerleading. BG believes passionately that all gymnastic activity in the UK should be registered, regulated and endorsed to ensure that the highest possible standards of child protection, participant welfare, teaching and learning are maintained Leisure providers will strengthen not only the image, but also the fabric of their gymnastic provision by forming a concrete partnership with British Gymnastics The Leisure Centre (LC) Scheme is designed to enable, encourage and actively support Leisure Centres to register their recreational gymnastic programmes with British Gymnastics

Benefits to Leisure Providers Fully recognised and endorsed programme by the NGB for Gymnastics in the UK, and can be promoted and marketed as such. Centres can access all of the support that BG as a governing body can offer such as development, legal, operational and technical services. Access and inclusion in local and National BG initiatives such as conferences, festivals, events, club networking and LTAD pathways. Preferential rates on equipment, resources, Proficiency Awards Schemes and other BG merchandise. All coaches are insured through British Gymnastics.

Benefits to customers of LCs Peace of mind that participants are being taught in a safe, friendly and positive environment, conforming to National Governing Body standards Connection to the gymnastics and trampoline community enables coaches to keep up-to-date with high quality practice, technical information and policy and procedure changes Being connected also helps create seamless pathways between BG Clubs and Leisure Centres, providing additional opportunities for participants to achieve their full potential Access to the member area of our website which includes preferential rates on British Gymnastics merchandise As a registered centre, [Centre Name] Leisure Centre are able to buy badges and certificates at a cheaper price, potentially saving you money

Main features of the scheme Contract based agreement Initial sign up is free Coaches must be members of BG and qualified to the level of the activity LC’s register their participants in blocks (for example termly) On receipt of programme register BG send out an invoice based on numbers of participants x number of weeks

Recommended model Identify strong Level 2 coach Facilitate an Award Scheme Coach course Level 2 coach leads the sessions Award Scheme coaches deliver the Proficiency Award Scheme content using work cards etc. under the direct supervision of the L2 coach This allows centres to meet the Scheme objectives quickly and simply without compromising quality Where an existing more comprehensive programme exists, the above model can be used to underpin and feed more ‘advanced’ sessions

Thank you We sincerely hope you decide to join the well established and growing British Gymnastics community. We look forward to working together in partnership to provide a consistently high quality experience to as many people as possible.
