Automated Medical Patient’s Evaluation System Abstract & Background Technical Problem Technical Approach Currently, the doctors at McFarland Clinic record patient examination data by hand. The doctor’s notes are typed and placed into the patient’s file several days later. The client would like to reduce the time and effort needed to produce an examination record. The software developed shall provide an automated way for the doctor to record the patient’s data, illness, symptoms, and treatment, and then print a patient examination record soon after the examination. Allow the user to easily record the patient data using a touchscreen. All instances of the program must have access to a common data source. Prevent unauthorized access to visit records. Generation and formatting of patient visit record for printing. Authenticate the user of the software. Graphical interface with which the user records the patient’s health data and illness. Graphical interface is usable with a touchscreen. User may enter multiple illnesses per patient. Method for user to review the recorded patient data before printing. Print the patient visit record. A touchscreen is not as precise a pointing device as mouse. Print format depends on the type of printer and stationary on which the patient visit record is printed. Whether data is stored on a local disk or a central database determines the flexibility and easiness of data maintenance. Completion of the project plan, design, and final report documents. A prototype of the software is presented to the client. Graphical interface for recording patient data is complete. Software saves and retrieves data from the database. Software prints the patient visit record. Client is satisfied with the final product Functional Requirements End-Product Description Design Constraints Milestones Touchscreen, mouse, and keyboard must be tested to make sure they work correctly with the graphical interface. Test if printed visit record has required items in the correct places. Software must print to necessary printers. Data must be stored and retrieved correctly. User authentication must be tested. Testing Approach Software with which the doctor may record the patient’s data, illness, symptoms and treatment during a patient examination. This information may be reviewed for correctness and then immediately sent to a specified printer. The printed record is suitable for placing in the patient’s file. Budget Monetary - $350 Personal Effort hours Data storage Doctor examines patient. Doctor enters patient data into computer using touchscreen. Patient visit record is printed. Printout is placed in patient’s file folder. Medical personnel at McFarland Clinic will use the software to record patient data during a patient’s examination. Software will be installed on touchscreen equipped Microsoft Windows computers in examination rooms and offices at McFarland Clinic. Patterson III The approach described in the following diagram will save time by using software to generate the visit records, which are currently written by hand. Computer systems have access to a remote printer. Users will possess basic computer skills. Assumptions Limitations Meeting with the client is difficult due to conflicting schedules. Little or no testing time on the actual systems that will run the software.
