At the turn of the twentieth century, Emmanuel Ninger got caught passing a counterfeit twenty- dollar bill at a local grocery store. No one could believe it, until the police uncovered the evidence in Mr. Ninger’s attic. When they climbed up to his attic, they found an art studio. On a canvas was a half- finished painting of a twenty-dollar bill. Needless to say, Emmanuel Ninger was sent to prison for his crime. But the saddest part of the story is this: Emmanuel Ninger had several other legitimate paintings in his attic. They were later sold for as much as $2,500 a piece! What is more, it took about the same time to paint a legitimate portrait as it did a twenty-dollar bill. So why did he do such a dumb thing?
