Presentation Notes:  Purpose  Educate the audience on the benefits of implementing automated traffic enforcement technology  Audience  Government officials of Grande Prairie Alberta’s municipal government. They will already be familiar with the 2015 Alberta Traffic Safety Plan.  Key Message  Implementation of automated traffic enforcement technology will benefit the city of Grande Prairie in three ways:  Increase Safety  Reduce workload for the local police force  Increase municipal revenue

Why focus on intersections?  47%  47% of all injuries and fatal traffic accidents in the Capital Region of Alberta occur at intersections drivers  These accidents are most often caused by drivers 50%  If we examine fatal traffic collisions the number occurring at intersections rises to 50%

Past Results  21 intersection safety cameras  Monitoring 7 different intersections  Average of red light violations per year  $ per ticket in lost municipal revenue  $1,211,  $1,211, per year from red light infractions alone

What is Automated Traffic Enforcement Technology? Fixed Red Light Cameras  Uses high definition cameras  Lane specific  Decline in fatalities by 35% Speed On Green Monitoring  Uses same cameras  Lane specific  Can detect single, multiple, parallel and simultaneous violations  Real time recognition process

Services Provided by Global Traffic Group Ltd.  Both Fixed Red Light and Speed On Green Monitoring  Cameras, installation, and maintenance  Review violations in-house, and issue citations  Full court support for all citations  All costs are covered for a small percentage of tickets that receive payment

Recommended Implementation  Preliminary implementation at 5 intersections with highest collision rates  Secondary implementation pending public approval to cover school zones and high volume intersections

Summary  Significant progress was made in traffic safety during the original implementation of automated traffic monitoring and enforcement systems  Automated traffic enforcement systems will meet the recommendations for technology improvement and enforcement strategies outlined in the 2015 Alberta Traffic Safety Plan.

Summary Grande Prairie will benefit in three ways. The cameras will:  Increase safety at Intersections  Reduce workload for the local police force  Increase municipal revenue
