Of Mice and Men Online Presentation by Lani Ginoza Honors English 1/2

Do you find the characters in this story to be realistic? Which ones "came alive" for you the most? Prompt

In the novella Of Mice and Men, I found the characters to be realistic because they all experience hardships and struggles, which conveys that they are vulnerable and make mistakes, just like us. Thesis

Unhappy in her marriage with Curley “Why can’t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody? I get awful lonely” (86). Seeks relationships w/ other men which makes her vulnerable to get hurt Many women are stuck in broken marriages and are afraid to leave Curley's wife

Deals with segregation because is he colored “Cause I’m black. They play cards in there, but I can’t play because I’m black. They say I stink.” (68) Struggles w/ not having any friends Isolation has hardened him Crooks

Feels rejected and inadequate because of his physical ailment “I ain’t much good with on’y one hand. I lost my hand right here on his ranch” (59.) Craves acceptance and belonging Supports the common belief that people will do anything for friendship. Candy

Has gone through many tribulations but never gives up Wants to take control of his life, but doesn't have the financial means to do so “If I was bright, if I was even a little bit smart, I’d have my own little place... ‘stead of doin’ all the work and not getting what comes outa the ground” (39). George

"Came alive" for me because he was determined to be successful His compassion for Lennie and his tough decision made it easy to sympathize for him George (cont.)

Insecure about his stature “Curley’s like a lot of little guys. He hates big guys.... Kinda like he’s mad at ‘em because he ain’t a big guy” (26). Feels the need to prove himself through fighting Shows signs of Napoleon Complex Curley

Overall, I found the characters to be very realistic because they all portray stereotypes that are still relevant today. Steinbeck's use of conflict helps characters "come alive" and be more relatable. Conclusion

THANKS FOR WATCHING! :)
