GREEN BEAN GERMINATION Jessica, Mariah, Jeong B1

Start of Day 1  We used 20 seeds.  5 dark small, 5 light small, 5 light big, 5 dark big.  We used a scale and container with tissue paper.

Results  The seeds length is 0 (cm).  We measured the seeds weight.  Labeled each container of description of seeds.

Start of Day 2  Some are rotten, we still continued with the experiment.  Possibility of too much water.

Results  All seeds remain 0 (cm)  6 containers show signs of growth.

Start of Day 3  Seeds are mold or rotten.  Reduced the amount of water given to the seeds.

Results  Small seeds (color did not matter), were growing instead of big seeds.  Seeds show a sign of excessive mold.

Start of Day 4  11 seeds were still germinating  9 seeds are either mold or rotten.  The seeds were showing signs of better germination due to the amount of water given on day 3.

Results  We removed the 7 seeds out of the data.  2 were not growing but not rotten or moldy.  Containers 18 and 6 were the fastest growing (both were small seeds).

Start of Day 5  2 were moldy.  The rest of the seeds were all grown to at least 1cm.

Results  Containers 6, 13, and 18 were the best results.  2 containers were discarded.

Conclusion  Out of 20 seeds, 9 were due to mold, 2 were due to no signs of germination, and 9 were germinated.  We used a large amount of water the first 2 days, then we reduced it, on day 3, the results were much better.
