How much you have in all, what you begin with. Tommy had 24 snack size Snickers bars. DIVIDEND:

DIVISOR: How many groups you are splitting the dividend into or How many of each of the dividend are in a group He shared them evenly with 3 of his friends.

Tommy had 24 candy bars in all 24 He shared them equally with 3 friends. Tommy Friend 1 Friend 2 Friend 3 DIVIDEND =24 DIVISOR = 4

0 Let’s hand out one to each person until we run out Sooo.. 24 candy bars divided by 4 boys equals 6 each!!! 24  4 = 6 24

You could check by grouping them! in all  4 boys(groups) = 6 each candy bars split or divided by

Sooo.. 24 candy bars divided by 4 boys really does equal 6 each!!! 24  4 = 6 By the way! The answer to a division problem is called the…. QUOTIENT!

What if I wanted to see how many groups I can make out of a certain number of items? Maria is making rag dolls to raise money for her church. Each doll uses 2 buttons, one for each eye. Maria has 14 buttons. How many dolls can she make? Question? How many dolls can she make? What do we know? Each doll needs 2 buttons She has 14 buttons

1 doll! 2 dolls! 3 dolls! 4 dolls! 5 dolls! 6 dolls! 7 dolls! Question? How many dolls can she make? What do we know? Each doll needs 2 buttons She has 14 buttons

Four leaf clovers have four leaves each. If I counted 16 leaves, then how many four leaf clovers did I see in all? NOW TRY THESE WITH YOUR PARTNER!! USE YOUR COUNTERS AND SCRAP PAPER TO SHOW YOUR WORK!!!! Mrs. West brought 15 quarters to give to her top 5 students in math. If she handed them out equally, how many quarters would each student receive? 1. 2.

LETS PRACTICE!! What division problem does this show? marbles divided into 2 equal groups 1 st group 2 nd group  2=6 in each group

What division problem does this show? marbles divided by 2 in each group  2=6 groups Group 1Group 2Group 3Group 4Group 5Group
