ALL-PLAY FULLY ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUND PROGRESS REPORT #2 PRESENTED BY: CJ DOUBLE M DESIGN SOLUTIONS COURTNEY O’BRIEN, JULIANNA HACHE, MARK WAGNER, & MIKE GRAHAM MARCH 9 TH, 2015

RECAP  Designing a piece of accessible equipment for children with muscular deficiencies  Also designing a layout for an accessible playground using preexisting equipment as well as our original piece of equipment  Chose our playground components based on CSA and ADA guidelines

GOALS REACHED  Found an accessible ramp with a correct grade and decided on placement of the ramp  Implemented sensory equipment that include sight, touch, and auditory stimulation  Chose bright colored handrails that meet all guidelines  Decided on the location of the swing sets based on guidelines for clearance space  Completed calculations to determine maximum load for Swing-Mate  Calculated the square footage of Pour-in-Place rubber required and got a price per square feet

CHALLENGES FACED  Playground  Choosing a layout for the ramp that is functional and meets the guidelines  High cost of equipment is a factor when choosing the accessible components  Swing-Mate  Made a design change based on advice from Dr. Oguejiofor  Decided because of design change to redesign engineering drawing using AutoCAD, and do an engineering drawing on Inventor for the final report

MATERIALS  A-36 steel 2 3/8” 11 gauge (for top rail and supporting rail connected to swings)  A-36 steel 1 7/8” 10 gauge (for legs and vertical supporting rails)  A-36 steel 1” 16 gauge (for rigid members connected to adaptive swing)  2 3/8” swing hanger (for chains and rubber swing)  2 3/8” steel pipe swing hanger (for connecting top rail to vertical supporting rails)  Rubber belt swing seat  Triple end with sleeve (to connect the legs to the top rail)  Molded plastic adaptive swing seat  Plastisol coated swing chain  1 1/16” washers  ½”-13 x 2” Hex cap screws

CALCULATIONS  Hex cap screw:  in 2 of thread area and psi double shear => 2 * 0.126in 2 *90000psi=22680lb  500 lb is limiting where the swing chains are connected to the supporting rail 15 o

GOALS FOR THE FINAL STAGE  Playground  Complete Autodesk AutoCAD drawing of playground layout including swings  Swing-Mate  Complete the Autodesk Inventor 3D drawing of Swing-Mate  Cost Estimate  Complete full cost analysis and revise layout if necessary
