Siting Considerations 2013 XMAC Meeting, Jonathan Hunt6

Siting Considerations 2013 XMAC Meeting, Jonathan Hunt7

Siting Considerations Environmental Issues –Wetland Mitigation Likely area of wetland disturbance = 65 acres Mitigation ratios between 1.5:1 and 5:1 depending on the quality of the wetlands as determined by the Army Corps of Eng. Various methods to mitigating wetland disturbance –Purchased wetland bank credits –Enhance existing wetlands on-site –Creation of new wetlands on-site Purchased wetland bank credits –Costs vary. Estimate $65K per mitigated acre. 1.5:1 = 65 acres x 1.5 x $65K = $6.3M 5:1 = 65 acres x 5 x $65K = $21M 2013 XMAC Meeting, Jonathan Hunt8 Use Avg. ~$14M

Siting Considerations Environmental Issues –Wetland Mitigation (cont’d) Army Corps of Engineers will require: –Avoid –Minimize –Mitigate –Environmental Assessment U.S. Fish and Wildlife Consultation May have to do an Environmental Impact Study 2013 XMAC Meeting, Jonathan Hunt9
