Create-A-Beast Mini-book You will be creating a beast with certain adaptations that will allow it to survive in certain habitats

 Learning Target  Explain behavioral and structural adaptations of an animal  Criteria of Success  Correctly identify different adaptations that exist in nature  Make something awesome!

Adaptations  Behavioral  An action that aids in survival  Ex: building a nest, running faster than zombies  Structural  A body part that aids in survival  Ex: fur, ducks feet, beaks  Physiological  Jobs of the body parts controlling life process that aid in survival.  Ex: Dolphins being able to hold their breath, warm blooded animal creating heat, a bear’s metabolism slowing during hibernation

Requirements of the Mini-Book  Front page  Title (name of the animal)  Picture of the animal  Tagline/motto for the animal  Ex: Dog = “Man’s Best Friend”  Page 1 (inside)  1 paragraph (at least 5 sentences) explaining the animal’s habitat and predator/prey relationships within the habitat.  Illustration of the animal in its habitat

Requirements of the Mini-Book  Page 2 (inside)  1 paragraph (at least 5 sentences) describing 2 behavioral adaptations: What is the adaptation? What is it used for? What other animal has these adaptations?  Illustrate the animal demonstrating these behaviors  Page 3 (back cover)  1 paragraph (at least 5 sentences) describing 1 structural adaptation and 1 physiological adaptation: What are the adaptations? What are they used for? What other animal has these adaptations?  Illustrate these physical adaptations

Examples of older, more ancient beasts
