plot Robert Neville was a scientist who was unable to stop a horrible manmade virus in which was incurable but later on finds out that his immune blood contains the cure Being the last known human being in New York City, he sent radio messages out for 3 years Mutant victims of the plaque are watching his every move Robert is perhaps the last hope mankind has but he is running out of time

conflict Robert experiments on rats to find the potential cure to this mutating virus He figured that the best candidate would be a live mutant so he captures one by tricking it with his blood This action infuriates the significant other of the mutants and it stops at nothing to get back at him. One day he does his daily routines and find a mannequin misplaced somewhere that he knew it shouldn’t have been. He then falls for a trick wire and hits his head leaving him unconscious. His best friend Sam (his dog) barks at him for a good amount of time then he finally regains consciousness. Then to find out that the mutant is waiting with it’s mutant dogs but it is already near sundown. It breaks out into a fight in which Sam is bitten and he isnt immune to the virus so he has to kill his own dog.

Climax After killing Sam, he falls into a depressed state and feels as though there is no reason to live anymore. Then a woman and her young boy save him and drive to his house but then they find out they were followed by the mutants. While being attacked in his own home he goes into the basement with the woman and young child where all of his experimentation was.

Falling action Then see’s that the girl mutant he had experimented on was making progress in changing back to a human and the cure was in his blood. As the mutants kept attacking he takes his blood and gives the vile to the woman telling her that it is the cure. As they seal themselves he stays behind because he feels the mutants pain of having a loved one taken away.

Original ending He grabs a grenade from the back of a drawer pulls the ring, and looks at his daughter and wife’ picture remembering the great moments they had as a family. As the lead mutant crashes through, Robert runs into him causing an explosion making it safe enough for the woman and boy to leave when the sun rises. When the sun finally does rise the young woman and boy go to the camp they heard about and give them the cure.

Changed ending As the mutants are attacking the house, Robert grabs the woman and young boy then runs into the basement locking it behind. Hes panicking asking himself what does he do to get them out of this. He then find that the girl mutant he captured to experiment on was making significant progress into becoming human again. After seeing that evidence, he draws blood from his arm into a vile because the cure is in his blood. The mutants bust through and Robert quickly grabs his families picture of his wife and boy and the grenade, climbing into the secret room along with the woman and boy then throws the grenade quickly shutting the door after. When sun rises all three of them go to the safety camp the woman heard about and give the soldiers his vile of blood containing the cure.
