WP2: Consolidation of existing state of the art Kostas Koumantaros, Ognjen Prnjat, GRNET

WP2 Objectives Conduct a state-of-the-art analysis regarding current solutions for European Grid interfacing with Grids in other world regions (D2.1 and results) Produce a set of guidelines for operational and organisational interactions, customised for the type of region (D2.2) Disseminate the NGI concept in the regions where this is needed, and conduct actions for national and regional sustainability (D2.3)

WP2 Deliverables D2.1 “State of the art” questionnaire – GRNET – M4 (March) D2.2 “Interoperability and interoperation guidelines” – INFN – M10 (September) “ analysis of the questionnaire data and proposed solutions for regional organisational and operational interactions. ” D2.3 “Regional sustainability report” – GRNET (September 2012)

Tasks: 2.1 description Task 2.1 State of the art analysis, GRNET – Current best practices analysis (for interfacing with EGI) – Questionnaire formulation, data collection

Tasks: 2.1 plan Questionnaire completed Deliverable completed Questionnaire sent start of April Answers collected by end of MAY and passed on to T2.2 and T4.1 (D4.1 is due in end of July)

Tasks: 2.1 plan ***Project-level issue: Very low questionnaire answers*** Collection organised PER REGION Support per region: Africa (Bruce/Roberto) status: no answers; action: directly contact partners Mediterranean (Federico): status: limited answers; action: directly contact partners Latin America (Rafa) status: limited answers; action: directly contact partners India (Sinha/Alberto) status: limited answers; action: directly contact partners China (Deipei, Federico): done NewZealand-Australia (Federico)- status: limited answers; action: directly contact partners South-East Asia (Eric/Stella): status: limited answers; action: directly contact partners Central Asia (Ognjen): status: Ognjen talking face-face with NRNs in the region

Tasks: 2.2 Task 2.2 Interoperation and interoperability guidelines, INFN: to start now – Set of guidelines based on questionnaire results – Analysis and comparison Synergies and harmonisation Regional specificities – EGI interface is in this activity

Tasks: 2.2 plan Guideline (template) for analysis must be produced by end of April (Ludek, Federico) May: start analyzing and systemizing questionnaire results (regional representatives, and INFN overview). (This is more D4.1) EGI involvement in this process must be clarified

Tasks: 2.3 Task 2.3 Long-term sustainability support, GRNET – disseminate the accumulated know-how on NGI and regional sustainability issues – actions on strengthening NGIs and regional structures. – examine the current and emerging plans of sustainability, enumerate the opportunities that could influence these and future plans and eventually propose measures of improvement based on the current best practices and new opportunities – the participation to co-organised events with EGI and EGI- Inspire such as specific workshops on regional eInfrastructures issues and perspectives. Joint action with WP5.

Tasks: 2.3 plan “Disseminating current NGI know-how: collect available documentation – EGI, SEEGRID, EELA/GISELA, etc By end April - CESNET – Systemize it and put it on wiki. By end June - CESNET – Disseminate it to all relevant parties (dissemination per region). Dissemination starts July “Actions on strengthening NGIs and regional structures”: Regional responsibles implementing NGI guidelines defined in – Action: Define sustainability-related weaknesses within D2.2 (CIEMAT, regions) – September – Action: Per-region action based on weaknesses (regions) – starting in September

Tasks: 2.3 plan - detailed The participation to co-organised events with EGI and EGI- Inspire such as specific workshops on regional eInfrastructures issues and perspectives. (suggest to move that to WP1-5; and keep specific sustainability dissemination here.) (INFN-GRNET) D2.3 “Regional sustainability report” (GRNET) must be based on comparison with questionnaire results relating to sustainability. (thus this section of D2.1 must be quite detailed; and probably another round of sustainability questionnaire to be carried out in Year 2?).

Effort INFN 19 (leads 1 task) CIEMAT 2 (leads 1 subtask) GRNET 14 (leads WP and 2 tasks) CESNET 2 (leads 1 subtask) UBUNTUNET 6 (per-region actions on all tasks) CLARA 6 (per-region actions on all tasks) IHEP 10 (per-region actions on all tasks, something extra volunteer please) PSA 4 (per-region actions on all tasks) Total 63 PMs

Responsible per region Asia-Pacific (Eric/Stella, Marco): no replies Mediterranean (Yousef/Federico) Bruce – Sub-Saharan Africa: delayed replies Luis + Rafa - LA Depei - China Sinha – India (Ognjen – CA) CESNET, CIEMAT

Open issues International standardization forum - Grid Interoperation Now in OGF – Giuseppe; input wil be provided to D2.2, new guidelines produced by GIN. How can ERINA+ help with sustainability issues? We wait and see.

Actions Questionnaire support and collection: per region; until end of May Guideline (template) for data analysis (D4.1, D2.2) must be produced by end of April (Ludek, Federico) Start analyzing and systemizing questionnaire results (regional representatives, and INFN overview) “Disseminating current NGI know-how: collect available documentation – EGI, SEEGRID, EELA/GISELA, etc By end April - CESNET – Systemize it and put it on wiki. By end June – CESNET Define sustainability-related weaknesses within D2.2 (CIEMAT, regions) – September Per-region action based on weaknesses (regions) – starting Sept Online database of NGI contacts – GRNET: in progress IHEP to suggest involvement
