3 Purpose To provide information on NOAA’s new efforts on Regional Collaboration To initiate a dialogue with the Working Group on how Regional Collaboration can enhance Extension, Outreach and Education

4 Program Overview Goals of Regional Collaboration Improved services for the benefit of NOAA’s customers Increased value and productivity of partnerships Improved stakeholder relations and support Improved internal communications and efficiency across line offices and programs A more visible and valued NOAA brand Success will be measured by NOAA’s ability to advance the work of the agency towards these goals

5 Program Overview Guiding Principles NOAA will advance its goals for regional collaboration through existing authority and accountability structures. This effort does not entail changes to NOAA’s organizational structure. The overarching purpose of regional collaboration is to improve NOAA’s productivity and value to customers. All those participating in this effort will strive to identify, acknowledge, and apply NOAA’s full range of capabilities, within and across regions, as needed to improve NOAA’s productivity and value to customers.

10 Regional Outreach and Communication National Outreach and Communications Team Louisa Koch is the Team Lead Includes 8 Regional Team Leads Assessment of regional assets underway Regional strategies are being developed Opportunity to promote common NOAA messages (e.g., 200 th anniversary, environmental literacy)

11 Issues/Opportunities Issues: –Uneven communications, uneven expectations –No additional resources available now; possible additional resources in the future –Participation of external partners –Integration of current regional priority efforts (e.g. Great Lakes Task Force) –Ensuring regional delineations don’t become ‘divides’

12 Issues/Opportunities Opportunities: –Strong leadership support for overall effort –Enthusiastic regional leads –Many NOAA products are not fully used and can be significantly improved through internal collaboration –Lots of strong partners focused on same or similar issues

13 Next Steps Exploring ways to include partners at regional level –Letters to partners going out shortly to introduce effort –Near-term goal: Include Partners in defining regional priorities Regional Collaboration will be briefed to the SAB at the March meeting NOAA’s Regional Collaboration could benefit from a systematic evaluation of NOAA’s outreach and communications capabilities
