Idaho 2010 SLD Research Project Overview Project length: June-October eligibility reports from all four June 2010 peer review sites Two data coders, 86% inter-rater reliability Will continue with eligibility report data to be gathered Spring 2011

Data Analysis: Frequency Areas Evaluation purpose, Eligibility decision, Regional distribution, Grade level, Native Language Areas of Concern –Basic Reading, Reading Fluency, Reading Comprehension, Oral Expression, Written Expression, Listening Comprehension, Math Problem Solving, Math Calculation

Data Analysis: Eligibility Report Filters Filter TypeExplanation Filter 1 SLD eligibility and one area of concern (Basic Reading, Math Problem Solving, etc) Filter 2 Appropriate core assessment, percent of peers >=70%, and student did not meet target Filter 3 Appropriate intervention area (Progress Monitoring) At least one attached PM graph with: aimline, trendline, decision points, student’s ROI, and national or local norm(s) for grade level peers Filter 4 SLD not due to lack of instruction, appropriate location for observation Filter 5 At least one appropriate academic achievement test in area of concern with score <90 Filter 6 At least one appropriate psychological processing test score in area of concern with score <90

Summary of Findings Top three areas of concern are reading 72% of eligibility determinations are in grades 1-6 Gender differences appear to be less pronounced in the SLD eligibility determination process Additional training/development needed in areas of progress monitoring
