PCS Board of Education Policy 3420 Principals shall determine student eligibility to take high school courses in middle school using the following criteria: An overall grade of a 90 or higher in the correlating middle school subject area course For high school science and social studies courses, students must also have an overall grade of a 90 or higher in the middle school language arts course A score of 90 or above on the subject area prognosis test, if applicable (Algebra 1 Prognosis Test) A passing score (32 out of 36) on the PCS Teacher Recommendation and Acceleration Characteristics Form. A score of 90% or above on the subject area EOG test Students are required to meet all criteria to be eligible to take the correlating high school course offered in middle school. If a student does not have an EOG score, the placement in high school courses may be made by the Principal based on available data.

Middle School Criteria for Compacted Math 7 Follows Board Policy 90+ Average in 6 th grade math Teacher Recommendation Score of 32 points minimum 90% or higher on Math EOG for 6 th grade

IOWA Algebra Prognosis Test for Math I Nationally normed, research based Timed test Student must score 90% or higher to meet criteria Students are assessed on the application of knowledge learned and how they apply it.

Additonal Information about HS classes in MS This opportunity is available to all students and all will be considered. AIG status does not mean automatic qualification for acceleration. It has no bearing on the criteria. We will use the outlined criteria to determine eligibility. Acceleration committee will meet in June and contact students and parents regarding eligibility for HS courses. There will be an appeals process for students determined ineligible. These will be considered on a case by case basis. Next Steps: Discuss possible acceleration with your child, in regards to what it means now and in high school. We will review all students’ data. You do not need to nominate. It is not an application process.
