Presentation transcript:

Progress report of TFG 7 “Fire resistance test” Sep. 17th, 2015 Korea Transportation Safty Authority (TS) Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI) Seul-ki Lee, Senior Researcher UN ECE / WP29 / GRSP/ 9 th EVS Informal Meeting in Changchun

5 th face to face meeting (Changchun China, Sep. 15th 2015) KATRI presented the review on TOR, current research results, test purpose, and other regulations.[EVSTF-04-20e] KATRI showed Korean national statistic regarding to fire accident which could imply that there is little possibility of fuel spill from a vehicle. KATRI suggested to change the purpose of fire resistance test by expanding to simulate different scenario of fire causes. ☞ keep the test purpose at this moment, need to be considered further Japan would not accept LPG burner test unless equivalency of heat energy is verified. US, Canada, China, Korea agree that temperature is a sufficient enough parameter to conduct fire resistance test. US may have some ideas regarding to a necessity of long duration test with test data. 1

5 th face to face meeting (Changchun China, Sep. 15th 2015) OICA would not accept longer exposure time since the purpose of fire test is to make sure occupant’s safety during evacuation time not preventing from explosion. OICA commented that there was a research result from France showing little difference when comparing fire test between ICE and EV. - US replied that vehicle level test can be unnecessary as Canada reported, but in component level, not much research has been done. US questioned what the purpose of pool fire test in R34 is. - OICA replied that from perspective of ensuring evacuation time, the purpose is the same whereas storage technology and reason for fire is different. 2

3 Open issues & Future work Part 1. Short Duration Fire Resistance Test 1.Gasoline pool test vs. LPG burner test – equivalency ☞ KATRI will try to find a solution how to verify it(by next meeting) ☞ Request all members to give any suggestion or opinion(by 15 th Oct.) 2.Necessity to define a single or multiple test methods, temperature profile, temperature sensor location, component or vehicle or both level test? ☞ After # 1 is resolved, we will discuss. Part 2. Long Duration Fire Resistance Test 1.US will give some ideas regarding to a necessity of long duration test with test data (by ?)

Thank you!
