Problem Statement UABC does not have the necessary financial resources to undertake the digitization of Marine Science Faculty Theses

Problem Statement There is a need to obtain funds for this endeavor, in order to preserve the collection for present and future generations.

Project Description Digitize, store, make available and preserve Marine Science Faculty theses. The information contained in this collection is all about research results on physical, chemical, geological and biological oceanography areas, developed in different areas of the country.

Goal UABC marine science theses collection is available on line as open access information for worldwide users.

Objectives Digitize the marine science faculty theses. Store digital documents in a standard format (PDF). Make them available for all interested users through a Web-based platform in the institutional website and OceanDocs repository.

Staff (Working Team) Position:Responsible for: Project ManagerPlanning and managing the project resources. Librarian/Information specialist Designing workflow and quality data. IT TechnicianDesigning and programming the Web based platform. IT TechnicianScanning and storing documents. Data and metadata quality control. Students (scholarship)Scanning and storing documents.

Timetable 2013 Task Acquisition of equipment. 2.- Interviews with Academic Information Department staff to determine the relevance priority of documents. 3.- Setting format standards for storing digital files. 4.- Access platform design and programming (Cimarron Catalog). 5.- Digitization of Marine Science theses. 6.- Storing and organizing digital files. 7.- Preparing metadata. 8.- Publishing digital documents in institutional Web site and OceanDocs. 9.- Preparing final report 10.- Dissemination of project results
