The New KU Library Navigating the Library and Finding Sources

Kaplan’s New Library Kaplan recently opened its own library. In the past, Kaplan has used the University of Alabama-Huntsville’s library. This may be frustrating at first for those comfortable with the old library—we knew how to use it and now things have moved around!

Databases: Article search You will see an alphabetical list of databases available in the KU Library with brief descriptions about what they include. Academic Search Premier is the largest and a good general-use database covering many topics and publications. Some other databases are subject-specific (health, education, etc.)

Accessing specific databases

New databases CQ Researcher (pro/con articles on controversial issues, browse by topic) Credo Reference (browse famous quotes by topic) Digital National Security Archive Greenfile (climate change and environment) Issues and Controversies (articles on current issues like education, politics, business, etc.)

Let’s do a search... Topic: Qualifications for pre-K educators Helpful database? ERIC (Educational Resource Information Center) Research questions: What are the current educational requirements for those teaching pre-K? Are there differences in qualifications for daycare workers and those teaching in preschools? Should requirements differ for those caring for 1 year olds versus 4 year olds? Would requiring an early childhood education degree improve the quality of care and better prepare children for kindergarten?

If at first you don’t succeed... Pre-K teaching certifications returned no results, so I put in pre-K education and got 36 full-text articles in the results list. What might be some other search terms to use on this topic?
