Learning Objective : Today we will identify and use appositives.

What will we learn how to use today? Today we will identify and use appositives.

Appositives Appositive – a noun or pronoun that is placed next to another noun or pronoun to identify or describe it. Example: Mrs. Fajardo, our principal, wants us to do well on the CSTs. Mr Urquieta, our fifth grade coordinator, preaches about the importance to do well on the CST’s. What is an appositive?

Combine these sentences using a conjunction (and, or, but) 1.Redwood trees have thick bark. 2.Their leaves are high above the ground. Partner Share Redwood trees have thick bark, and their leaves are high above the ground.

Why is it important? Knowing what an appositive is helps you build vocabulary Helps you become a better writer because you learn how to write sentences in different ways

Steps for Combining sentences using appositives 1.Read the two sentences. 2.Identify how the two sentences are related. 3.Choose the appositive that will describe the subject. 4.Combine the sentences using commas before and after the appositive. 1.Our soccer team dashed to victory last night. 2.Our team is called the Eagles.
