Fishbowl Discussion Prep Week 2, Day 3

Warm Up: Discussion Questions Answer the questions in your journals/sheet of paper.  TKAM:  Complete the questions that go up through the highest chapter you have read.  At this point, that should be up to Chapter 13.  ROTHMC:  Complete the questions that go up through the highest chapter you have read.  At this point, that should be up to Chapter 5. You have 3 songs to work. The questions can be found: As a CLASS SET at the front of the room, or On the blog (click on the “Novel Studies” page)

Agenda  Learning Target: Today I will prepare for my role in the fishbowl discussion.  Questions and Answers  Fishbowl Topics and Prep  Catch Up Time/In-Class Reading

Questions and Answers  Let us briefly discuss the events in chapters 1-11 in To Kill a Mockingbird.  Do you have any lingering questions before tomorrow’s quiz?  Now, let us briefly discuss the events in chapters 1-5 in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.  Do you have any lingering questions before tomorrow’s quiz?

Fishbowl Discussion Prep  You will be divided up into groups based upon the book you are reading.  Within those groups, you will all be divided into smaller groups of your choice.  Each group will research a particular theme within your book of choice.  You will have minutes.  Use your time wisely, I will be evaluating your participation in the Fishbowl based on how much you share TOMORROW.

Fishbowl Discussion Prep  TKAM:  Racism  Social Inequality  Coexistence of Good and Evil  Appropriate Gender Roles  ROTHMC:  Racism  Land as Independence  Family and Community  Injustice and Dignity  The Power of Silence 1.Choose a theme. 2.Write down examples of this theme as shown in the book. You will need this list of examples tomorrow.

Catch Up/In-Class Reading Time  You can use the rest of class to catch up on any outstanding parts of this unit.  Remember, there will be another reading log and Journal check on Friday  You now have time to read:  TKAM- Read through Chapter 14  ROTHMC-Start Chapter 7
