Warm-Up ACIDBASENeutralized Solution Let us say we have an acid – base neutralization reaction that has a ratio of 7 : 4 acid to base. This means for every 7 drops of acid, we need 4 drops of base. What would this look like using our model below?

Procedure  We will read pages 96 – 100.  While reading, please record key term definition in your glossary using the context to define them.  Also, respond to prompts on the 3- Level Reading Guide as you read.

Procedure  Which type of chemical bonding will yield an acid or a base (and it does not always do so)?  Which ion will create an acidic solution and which will create a basic solution?

Procedure  Let us examine chemical formulas for reacting acids and bases.  We can represent the neutralization reaction by showing how the chemical rearrange during reaction using a chemical formula.

Procedure  HCl + NaOH  NaCl + H 2 O  Which in the above is the acid?  Which is the base?  Which is the salt?  Which is the neutral substance?

Procedure  HCl + NaOH  NaCl + H 2 O  The HCl will dissociate in solution and produce H+ ions.  The NaOH will dissociate in solution and produce OH- ions.  H + + OH -  H 2 O
