Is the room you are in now conducive to learning? Get in groups of 5, obtain a piece of large graph paper, begin to sketch the room. (SCALE??) What items in the room are conducive to learning? What limitations are there in the room? Share this with the group. Go back to your group and make modifications to the room, add furniture, take out walls, add walls, etc. Share your changes with the group. This is what I had my students think about.

REMODELING We remodeled the library/media center to see if its new design was suitable for the learning of our students. We thought of integrating laptops and computers along with printers for each area of computers. We added a lost and found center, a coat area, and shelves for students to put their things away while in the library. We also integrated a snack arena for the students.

USING GOOGLE SKETCHUP We found out that it was easier to work with Google Sketchup because it is a lot more user friendly. We felt more comfortable using this program because we had more confidence and it was not a lot of commands we had to use. We would use the toolbar instead of using the command line.

CONTRIBUTIONS All the members in the group help throughout the project. We helped each other out when we had difficulties performing our task. We were very comprehensive of others needs.

FEEDBACK We thought that this was a good project because we got to work at our own pace and we were teaching each other. We worked together as a whole so the project was not as hard as it look. If we had not work together we would probably had a hard time figuring out what to do. We also liked the project because we got to use our imagination to create a new learning environment that can be better for us and future one’s as well.

TEKS and SEs Math Math ContinuedCADEnglish The student identifies and applies patterns from right triangles to solve problems, including special right triangles, and triangles whose sides are Pythagorean triples. The students uses top, front, side, and cornet views of 3-D objects to create accurate and complete representations and solve problems. Locate points on a coordinate plane using ordered pairs. The student extends measurement concepts to find area, perimeter, and volume in problem situations. Organizes ideas in writing to ensure coherence, logical progression, and support for ideas. Use prewriting strategies to generate ideas, develop voice and plan. Read in such varied sources as diaries, journals, textbooks, maps, newspapers, letters, speeches, memoranda, electronic texts, and other media. Draw upon his/her own background to provide connection with texts. Describe the effect on perimeter, area, and volume when one ore more dimensions of a figure are changed and apply this idea in solving problems. The student gathers and records data, or uses data sets to determine functional (systematic) relationships between quantities. The student makes and verifies conjectures about angles, lines, polygons, circles, and 3-D figures, choosing from a variety of approaches such as coordinate, transformational, or axiomatic. Demonstrate the basic techniques and knowledge of Basic Computer Aided Drafting Skills through verbal and written recitation as well as visual performance through overhead projection of completed projects. Create their own basic designs based on solutions to challenges from the needs of the school. Demonstrate the ability to cope with field changes in design in order to further meet the needs of the project. Read and interpret appropriate architectural symbols, schematics, blueprints, work drawings, manuals, and bulletins. The student applies the concepts and skills of the trade to simulated and actual work situations. The student is expected to construct points, lines, and other geometric forms using accepted computer --aided design methods

Engagement Exploration Explanation and Evaluation A walk around the library Found website for graph paper, allowed students to pick their square size and come up with a scale. Look at pictures of libraries on the internet Start measuring the library. Take trips and ask them to start somewhere and begin. String and protractors, what do you we do with them? Engagement Exploration Engagement Exploration

Explanation and Evaluation Explanation: Area and perimeter were the big focus. Students will gather measurement data and take it back to the computer to digitize it. Group work is involved and roles in the group are defined. Students are told to figure out how to measure circumference using a sting and how to figure out difficult angles found the library. Evaluation: Students will need to present their ideas, their opinions on our library and come up with suggestions on how to change it both verbally and design wise in AutoCAD.
