B UDGET C ONSIDERATIONS The district continues to fund its educational and operational costs under the strict guidelines of the State-mandated Tax Cap. The Tax Levy proposed for the school year is below the Tax Cap threshold. The standard 50% voter approval is required in order for the budget to pass Remember to Vote: Tuesday, May 17,

B UDGET C ONSIDERATIONS We are continuing our traditional posture of minimizing tax increases while maintaining quality educational programs. The Board of Education and the District Administration worked hard to develop a budget that utilizes all available resources to keep rising costs at a minimum. On a per pupil basis, the Elmont School District ranks 7th among the 56 school districts in Nassau County for least spending, while maintaining excellent student achievement. On a per pupil basis, Elmont is one third below the average county tax levy. 4

Budget Summary - Major Cost Increases Amount Percent Change Personnel Costs$ 547, % Health Insurance 498, % All Other Budgets-Net Cost 6, % Total Change in Annual Budget$ 1,051, % 5

Budget Savings Secured $150,000 in State - grant funds to update our wireless technology infrastructure. Ongoing savings in Facilities operations and maintenance through capital investment in building infrastructure; ex. - Installation of energy-saving windows Through vigilant residency investigations, the district has saved approx. $884,000 by excluding non-resident students. Finding creative ways to save on in-district services by participating in State and BOCES Cooperative Bids; 1. Teacher Professional Development 2. Savings in Technology Projects 3. Purchase of Office Supplies “in bulk” at a big savings 4. Go Green/Paperless next year – No Paper Report Cards 9

Character Education The district places a strong emphasis on educating and teaching our students to “give back” and help donate to worthwhile charitable causes such as: 1.American Cancer Society 2.American Heart Association 3.Pennies for Patients 4.Building Homes for Heroes 5.UNICEF 6.As well as an abundance of food and clothing during the holiday season.
