International Skills Partnership Kathryn Bishop International and Business Relations Officer

Principal’s Job Shadowing 2013 Phase 1 Coleg y Cymoedd visited Chongqing Industrial College benchmarking and evaluating the following areas  Curriculum design and delivery  Employer Engagement  Teaching and Learning  Quality Assurance  Leadership and Management

Phase 2 Chongqing Industrial College visited Coleg y Cymoedd to benchmark vocational educational training in China and the UK. The Chinese staff participated in:  Visits to local employers  Classroom observations to see how the college delivers vocational education  Meetings with employers to understand and appreciate the benefit to companies and learners

Outcome  Mutual interest in the apprenticeship model and work based learning approach  Aim to secure funding to train 120 existing VET staff in Chongqing Industrial College, in the principles and practices of work based learning

British Council Start Up Project Phase 1 10 day train the trainer to over 120 VET staff at Chongqing Industrial College in the principles and practices of WBL Topics included:  Planning for Assessments  Carrying out assessments  Feedback and Feedforward  Making assessment decisions  Quality Assurance  Teaching and Learning Methodologies  E Learning

Phase 2 UK Study Tour Staff from Chongqing Industrial College visited Coleg y Cymoedd to undertake further training and observe work based learning in practice. The visit included:  Employer engagement  On the job assessments within industry  Practical classroom based observations

Phase 3 Provide colleagues in China with tools and resources to begin implementing new initiatives within the delivery of the curriculum:  Work based approach  Employability skills  Personal Skills e.g. Communication, Confidence

Feedback Class activities were excellent, learners participated in them enthusiastically (Train the Trainer) Another training workshop is welcome (Train the Trainer) I have learned a lot from your training, and some suggestions are good (Train the Trainer) Thank you very much for your kind arrangement last week and pleases transfer our great appreciation to your colleagues we met! We learned a lot during this visit and will absorb and put into practise according to our actual situation! (UK Study Visit)
