Taylor PhD Realizations Inc Late 1960s and early 1970s Longitudinal studies on deferred gratification (led by Stanford psychologist Walter Mischel) 653 four to six year olds were promised a second marshmallow if they could wait to eat it until the researcher returned to the room in 15 or 20 minutes
