TONIGHT’S GOALS: -TESTING UPDATE -DISCUSS 2016/17 SCHEDULE -DISCUSS CURRICULUM OPTIONS -EXPLAIN THE 2016/17 SCHEDULING PROCEDURE ANSWER QUESTIONS

TESTING UPDATE Due to a grading delay the test results have not been sent home yet. Scores should be mailed by next Monday. This will have no impact on scheduling as it occurs in May.

2016/17 BELL SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS Student day is 8:30-3:24 There is no music/non music option this year!!!! World Language will look a little different. It will be opposite of Pre-Engineering, Art, & Health. Intervention is offered 2-3 days a week. Intervention is for students with an identified deficiency in LA/Math/Reading. CORE classes will be 60 minutes in length World Language is 40 minutes/5 times a day Music/PE/Tech (Green Block) is 55 minutes/day

What to expect with the scheduling procedure? REQUIRED CORE CURRICULUM Language Arts Math Science Social Studies World LanguageHealth If you take Music you get: -4 days per week of music and 1 day per week of Physical Education If you do not take music you get: -12 weeks of Music Appreciation, 12 Weeks of Physical Education, and 12 weeks of Technology class

Language Arts Placement If you are identified as Gifted in reading or have a “Superior Cognitive designation” you automatically qualify for the Advanced Language Arts class. All other students are placed in 7 th Grade Language Arts. We will work to “cluster group” students of similar ability. Appeals are possible. The appeal form will be on the LBMS website by Friday afternoon.

Math Placement Students are given the IAAT Test (Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test)

Science Placement 6 th grade students were given the Iowa Test of Basic Skills Assessment We will look to cluster group Science 7 next year. This will create a more intense science 7 class for those students with a high ITBS test.

2016/2017 World Language Offerings 7th Grade students can chose between Spanish or French. 7 th Grade World Language has different options next year: Semester class (no credit) Opposite of Pre-Engineering, Art, and Health 8th Grade options Level 1 which is full year, 5 days per week. Very intense language immersion Semester class (no credit) Opposite of Pre-Engineering and Art

APPEAL PROCESS This is an example of what the appeal will say. Appeal Forms are located at wlake.org/schools/lbms Appeal forms have to be submitted in person within 30 days of receipt of the scores PLEASE DO NOT THE FORMS
