On the advice of an AQA examiner, we have decided to teach the skills needed for the English Language qualification through our study of the Literature texts. We make the skills that we are covering in each lesson explicit in a colour-coding system.

As there are no longer any Controlled Assessments, we have devised our own internal testing system which requires pupils to complete exam style tasks. This is an example of Question 2 from Paper 1. Pupils recently attempted a similar task under exam conditions.

This is an example of a milestone cover sheet: it gives pupils a sense of their current level and how it equates to the traditional letter grades. Importantly, pupils are given a target task designed to get them to focus on, and improve, an aspect of their answer.
