Japanese Beetle Popillia japonica Newman, 1838 Native of Japan and Northern China First found in a nursery in Riverton, New Jersey (across from Philadelphia) in 1916 in imported Japanese rootstock Infestation east of the Rockies Iowa added to quarantine list in 2006 Over 400 host plant species

Japanese Beetle in California First trapped at LAX in 1951 Major infestation in 1961 in Sacto Declared eradicated in 1965 Later in Balboa Park and Orangevale Frequently intercepted at airports In CA from May 1 to August 31 trapping near major airports
