A runway incursion can happen in one or more of the following situations: complacency poor communication loss of situational awareness poor visibility
Identifiable features to prevent runway incursions: holding position markings on taxiways and runways non-movement area boundary markings or any markings bordering the AOA that may cause an incursion or surface incident RSAs
Basic functions Provide position of RIWS-equipped vehicle locations Provide a moving map indicating the position of the vehicle on the airport Provide a warning/alert signal (audible and visual ) to the vehicle driver
Performance The required system performance for vehicle location: <10ft 95% of the time and update rate: once per second (minimum) Vehicle warning time: increase 6 feet in advance of the movement direction for every 1 mph increase in speed. System initialization: upon vehicle start-up
