What type of approach would you want the information to be presented to you before you arrive?

Would you have wanted access to a public forum to meet other students on the same course before you arrived at University?

Who's point of view of the course would you find most valuable?

Would you prefer to see the whole course structure before you arrive at University?

Would you have wanted to be aware of the skills required for a University degree?

 Critical reading, IT skills, specific knowledge of psychology  How to write an essay (i.e. the structure) as its very different to a level  How to organise yourself  Time management, referencing  Statistical skills  Self-discipline  The independence of study and need to be able to motivate oneself  That transferring from A level to degree level is a process and you will be gradually helped through it  Sorts of assessed work that may be given, tips for getting most from lectures and appropriate reading, tips on completing essays, and reports  Hard working, dedication, patience

If you are an international student, would you want a section dedicated to information aimed specifically at you?

 Language requirements and most importantly teaching and assessment practices. These vary wildly between countries and it would have been very helpful to know in advance how the teaching is done and how exams work. For example, lectures with 100+ people were completely unheard of for me and the regulations for exams seem surprisingly rigorous and technical at first.  That essays need to have some critical analysis since not everywhere it is as important as in British education. Another thing is that students should remember to do everything in accordance with British education (e.g. putting a decimal point and not a comma).  British culture (e.g. addressing by first name, drinking culture, etc.)  Cultural differences, maps, places to shop, buy food, eat, language tools

Issues to consider  Think about structure  Timeline of tasks  Team to share tasks; not a task for one person  Creating the content

Psychology VLE team  Prerna Menon  Robert Kodama  Alex Knight  Cheyann Heap
