Revolutionary Parenting CBCGL Sunday School 2009 September Session 5: Rules of Engagement

Session 1~4 Recap Session 1: Set Goal Right Raising Spiritual Champion Session 2: Set Condition Right PRAY Principle Session 3: Put First Things First Changing Priority of Your Life Session 4: Building Godly Characters

Session 1 Bible Verse Deut 6:5~7 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commands that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Session 2 Bible Verse Deut 11:19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Session 3 Bible Verse 1 Samuel 3:13 For I told him that I would judge this family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons made themselves contemptible, and he failed to restrain them.

Session 4 Bible Verse Galatians 5:22~23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Session 5 Bible Verse Proverbs 13:24 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

Establish Media Limits Children spend more time with the mass media than they spend with anything or anyone else in life. Most parents become willing victims of media manipulation. You are the only effective firewall! Discuss with film and TV shows with your children. Nurture biblical views of the world.

You are the Firewall!

Lay Down The Law Rule #1: Always tell the truth, regardless of the circumstances or consequences; strive to be known as honest, reliable, and trustworthy. Rule #2: Never cheat or steal; that brings dishonor on your self and disrespect to the victim. Rule #3: Always show respect to other people, no matter how you feel about them, through your attitude and language; it reflects the love that God has for them. Rule #4: Help others whenever the opportunity arises; we are servants. Rule #5: Control your tongue: Swearing and angry words are inappropriate. Rule #6: Do not judge other people’s motives; only judge their behavior insofar as it personally affects you or family members.

Lay Down The Law – Cont’d Rule #7: Take good care of your body; consistent hygiene and physical exercise are important to maintain. Rule #8: Be active in the pursuit of your faith, in whatever form that journey takes. Rule #9: Work hard in school to produce the best grades and most excellent work possible. Rule #10: Carry out your household chores as a means of pulling your weight in the family, honoring family members through service, and developing good habits. Rule #11: Make sure at least one parent knows where you are at all times; if you’re away from home and want to go somewhere else, get parental approval first. Rule #12: Accept the penalties for inappropriate behavior.

Ambivalence Toward Education Your child’s worth is not in the kind of job he has but in the character he demonstrates and in his love for God. Your dream for your child and God’s dream for your child may be different. The most important thing is not whether he has a college degree, but whether he serves God.
