Internet Sources: Explorer Project 5th Grade Social Studies Created by Perkins County Schools NETA 2012

Objectives: Students will search the Internet for reliable and useful sources. Students will gather facts about explorers using reliable Internet sources. Students will create a Keynote presentation about an explorer using facts from reliable Internet sources.

Let’s Get Started Students will be assigned or allowed to choose an explorer associated with United States history.

A Few Examples: Coronado Ponce de Leon Magellan Pizarro Vespucci de Soto Cartier Hudson Balboa Cabot Verrazano Cabrillo Joliet Dias

Sources: Students select and verify a minimum of 5 reliable sources.

Reliable Facts: Students find 10 facts about the explorer using the selected internet sources.

Keynote: Students create a Keynote presentation using the facts they gathered from the reliable internet sources.

Internet Sources: Students include a page on the Keynote that lists the web sites they used to gather facts.

Extra: Students may also add pictures, maps, diagrams, etc. to their Keynote slides. Students may add effects to slide transitions. Students may add music from Garageband and make it into an iMovie.

The following slide is an example of a student project following these guidelines.
