SERVICE-LEARNING By: Blake Summers

Service-Learning  “Involves students in community service activities and applies the experience to personal and academic development”- (CSU)

Benefits  There are many benefits of service learning.  You gain hands on experience  Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills  Learn more about social issues  -(University of Minn)

My Service  As a service-learning experience I participated in the Blazer Build which is also known as “Habitat for Humanity”. Everyone that worked on this house was a VSU athlete.

Service Explanation  In the Blazer Build my teammates helped a small group of construction workers build a home. We put up windows, doors, siding on the house, and shingles on the roof.

My Experience  After the community service experience I felt like I was a part of someone’s dream. My teammates and I participated in building a home for someone less fortunate.

Pictures  Working on the house
