The Teachers’ Guides are the core of the programme: Learning progressions by outcomes Support for using Student Activity Books Planning support Links to NZ National Curriculum Achievement Objectives Teaching support Using mini projects as assessment tasks Criteria for assessment Individual pupil records Answers Resource Links

Pearson Mathematics Assessment Tool A tool to assess student ability to use their knowledge to solve problems at their highest level of mathematical thinking. (Strategy stage – NZ Number Framework) Assists teachers to build professional knowledge of stages of mathematical thinking and associated knowledge requirements Provides information on current achievement and next steps Provides information on individuals and cohorts against National Standards Provides information on progress over time

Understanding what student responses tell you about their mathematical knowledge and understanding provides you with much more information than a stage number. Understanding student responses means you can be proactive when working with students and carrying out the 65% observational assessment with confidence. Improving Professional Knowledge

Mini Projects as Assessment Tasks Pearson Mathematics has regular mini projects through out levels 2 – 4. Assessment criteria are identified in the teachers guide. The projects are intended to be carried out individually or in pairs. Use student voice as part of the assessment; Best fit model National standards matched against mini projects

Assessment Criteria Students are able to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication & division problems in a context using additive strategies. Students are able to communicate their mathematics effectively.

National Standards All levels downloadable from the the website Download from free resources, teacher professional knowledge, National Standardswww.thewilkieway.co.nz
