 The ADA defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. This includes people who have a record of such an impairment, even if they do not currently have a disability. It also includes individuals who do not have a disability but are regarded as having a disability.

Any device or computer program that allows a person with a disability to perform a task that they could not otherwise perform for themselves.

High Tech  Device, that is commercially produced to meet the needs of a person with a disability. Low Tech  Something that you create on you own to meet the needs of a person with a disability. No Tech  Using an item that was not specifically created for assistive tech, but can be used to meet the needs of a person with a disability.

 Assistive tech is only as useful as a person’s willingness to use it.  The most expensive piece of equipment is not always the best solution.  Make the solution fit the needs of the person. Do not try to make the person meet the needs of the tech.

 Have revolutionized mobile technology and the way we communicate.  These devices provide people with mini-computers they can use on the go and are more affordable.  Apps have changed the way we use our phones.  There are thousands of apps available for download with new ones constantly being developed.
